General
Trueday is a smart daily planner for iPhone that builds realistic schedules you can actually complete. It uses a 16-factor scheduling engine that considers your energy levels, location, prayer times, task priorities, deadlines, and dependencies to create an honest daily plan — no overbooking, no burnout.
Traditional planners let you stack 14 hours of tasks into an 8-hour day. Trueday is different:
- 16-Factor AI Engine — Scores and places every task using priority, urgency, energy matching, location clustering, dependencies, time windows, and 10 more factors
- 24-Hour Energy Curve — Your personal energy profile (Morning Lark, Night Owl, or Balanced) maps 24 hours across 3 tiers. Deep work lands in your peak hours, light admin fills recovery periods
- Radical Honesty — The app flags overloaded days and refuses to pretend you can do more than your available hours allow
- Prayer-Aware Scheduling — Astronomical prayer time calculations with 7 methods (MWL, ISNA, Umm Al-Qura, Egypt, and more) block scheduling during prayer windows
- Location Intelligence — Clusters tasks by location, calculates commute times between your saved places, and inserts travel buffers automatically
- Offline-First — Everything runs on-device. No internet required to plan your day
- iPhone (iOS 17+) — Full experience with timeline planning, drag-to-reschedule, and natural language task capture
- iPad — Optimized layout with sidebar navigation, split view, and keyboard shortcuts
- Home Screen Widgets — Today (small, medium, large), Progress, and Daily Load, plus a Next Task Lock Screen widget and Live Activities
- Siri & Shortcuts — 10 App Shortcuts covering create, complete, next task, show today, snooze, move, replan, context mode, clear your day, and free-form requests
Yes. Trueday is available now on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. Download it from truedayapp.com or search for Trueday on the App Store.
Getting Started
Onboarding takes about 2 minutes through a guided setup wizard:
- Welcome — See the app's value proposition
- Schedule Setup — Set your wake/sleep times and work days
- Energy Profile — Choose your natural rhythm:
- Morning Lark — Peak energy early, tapering off by afternoon
- Night Owl — Slow start, peak energy in late evening
- Balanced — Consistent energy with a mid-day dip
- Prayer Times (Optional) — Opt in to automatic prayer time blocking
- Notifications — Grant permission for smart reminders
You can skip any step and configure it later in Settings.
Your energy curve is a 24-point profile (one value per hour) that tells the scheduler when you're at your best. Each hour is rated Low, Medium, or High. The scheduling engine uses this to place demanding tasks (like "Deep Work") during your peak hours and lighter tasks during low-energy periods.
You can choose a preset (Morning Lark, Night Owl, Balanced) or customize individual hours in Settings > Profile > Energy Curve.
Tap the + floating action button on any screen. In the task form you can set:
- Title (up to 200 characters)
- Description (optional notes)
- Duration (5 minutes to 8 hours)
- Priority — Critical, High, Medium, or Low
- Category — Work, Personal, Study, Health, Errands, Household, Faith, Social, Finance, Other
- Energy Required — Low, Medium, or High
- Focus Level — Can be interrupted, Mild focus, or Deep focus
- Time Window — Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Night, or Anytime
- Deadline — Hard deadline (must finish by) and/or soft deadline (preferred date)
- Location — Link to a saved location
- Dependencies — Block this task until other tasks are completed
Once saved, the scheduling engine automatically places it in the optimal time slot on your timeline.
Scheduling & The AI Engine
When you add tasks, Trueday scores each one across 16 factors — including priority, urgency, energy match, location, dependencies, and time windows. Higher-scoring tasks get placed first in your best available time slots, while lower-priority tasks fill in around them. The result is a realistic schedule that respects your constraints without overbooking your day.
The schedule automatically regenerates when:
- You open the app (foreground)
- You add, edit, or complete a task
- A calendar day changes (midnight)
- Significant time change events occur
You can also manually drag tasks to new time slots — the engine preserves your manual placement and works around it.
Trueday uses honest scheduling. If tasks cannot fit into your available hours:
- Tasks are ranked by priority score
- The highest-scoring tasks get scheduled first
- Lower-priority tasks go into the Overflow list
- You see a clear warning: "X tasks couldn't fit today"
- The app suggests deferring overflow tasks to tomorrow or splitting them into smaller chunks
Yes. On the Today Timeline, simply drag a task to a new time slot — it snaps to 15-minute intervals. The scheduling engine preserves your placement and works around it during future regenerations (your manually placed task gets a +100 point bonus so it won't be moved).
For example, if the AI scheduled "Deep Work" at 10 AM but you'd rather do it at 2 PM, just drag it to 2 PM. The engine will reshuffle lower-priority tasks to accommodate your change.
You can also pin a task to a specific date, which gives it the strongest scheduling signal.
Each task has an energy requirement (Low, Medium, High). Your profile has a 24-hour energy curve. The scheduler:
- Perfect match (task energy = your energy at that hour) → +20 points
- One level off → +12 points
- Two levels off → +5 points
- Complete mismatch → 0 points, tries next window
If no energy-matched window exists, the task still gets scheduled with a warning.
Long tasks that don't fit in a single time window can be automatically split into smaller Pomodoro chunks (25-minute work blocks with 5-minute breaks). After 4 chunks, a longer 15–30 minute break is inserted.
Enable splitting per-task with the "Splittable" toggle. The scheduler tracks progress across chunks ("Day 1 of 2", "3 of 5 chunks done").
You can make one task wait for another to complete. For example, "Review proposal" can depend on "Write proposal draft". Dependency chains add +20 points per blocked task to the upstream task, ensuring prerequisites are scheduled first.
The app validates for circular dependencies (A depends on B depends on A) and blocks them.
- Save frequent locations (Home, Office, Gym, Mosque, Market, or Custom) with coordinates
- Set commute times between location pairs manually or auto-calculate via Apple Maps
- The scheduler clusters same-location tasks together (+20 points bonus)
- Travel buffers are inserted between different-location tasks (15 min minimum or 20% of travel time)
- Transport modes supported: Driving, Walking, Transit
Clustering and travel buffers run on every plan. Free includes 3 saved locations; Pro removes that cap so you can track commutes between as many places as you like.
Prayer Times
When enabled in Settings or during onboarding:
- Trueday calculates the 5 daily Islamic prayer times (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha) using your location
- Prayer events are auto-generated as fixed blocks on your timeline (default 15 minutes each)
- The scheduler never places tasks during prayer windows
- Calculation uses astronomical Julian-day sun positioning for accuracy
7 methods are available:
- Muslim World League (MWL)
- Islamic Society of North America (ISNA)
- Egyptian General Authority
- Umm Al-Qura (Saudi Arabia)
- University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi
- Dubai
- Jafari (Shia)
You can also choose the Asr calculation method: Standard or Hanafi.
Go to Settings > Prayer or enable during onboarding. You'll need to grant location access so the app can calculate accurate times for your area.
Calendar Integration
Yes. In two ways:
- Read Sync (Free) — Import your Apple Calendar events so the scheduler avoids conflicts. You choose which calendars to import, and events appear as blocked time on your Trueday timeline
- Write-Back (Pro) — Two-way sync: tasks you schedule in Trueday appear as events in Apple Calendar. Edits sync both ways with conflict resolution
Yes. You can enable or disable individual calendars (Work, Personal, Shared) in Settings. Events are color-coded by source calendar on your timeline.
Focus Timer
Yes, with three modes:
- Adaptive — Adjusts break length based on your energy level
- Pomodoro (Strict) — Classic 25/5 Pomodoro cycles
- Continuous — No breaks until you pause
The timer is context-aware: it knows which task you're working on and tracks actual vs. estimated duration for analytics.
Task Management
10 built-in categories: Work, Personal, Study, Health, Errands, Household, Faith, Social, Finance, Other — each with its own icon and color.
Pro users can also create custom categories with personalized names, icons, and colors (up to 50).
Tasks move through a state machine with 7 states:
- Pending — Created, not yet scheduled
- Scheduled — Placed on the timeline by the engine
- In Progress — You're working on it (only one at a time)
- Paused — Temporarily stopped (max 3 pauses per task)
- Completed — Done
- Deferred — Postponed to another day
- Cancelled — Removed from schedule
Yes. After completing a task, you have a 5-minute undo window. A toast notification appears with an "Undo" button. The task reverts to its previous state with its original time slot.
Yes. From notifications or the task detail view, snooze with presets (10 min, 30 min, 1 hour, 2 hours) or choose a custom time. Maximum 5 snoozes per task before you must complete, defer, or cancel it.

Troubleshooting
Check these common causes:
- Energy curve mismatch — Ensure your energy profile in Settings matches your actual daily rhythm
- Time windows too narrow — Tasks with specific time windows may conflict with blocked events
- Calendar conflicts — Apple Calendar events may be blocking slots. Review imported calendars in Settings
- Too many high-priority tasks — The engine ranks by score; if everything is Critical, it can't differentiate
- Ensure you're signed in to the same Trueday account on all devices
- Check that cloud sync is enabled (Pro required)
- Verify internet connectivity on both devices
- Open Settings → Account and tap Sync Now
- Check iOS Settings > Trueday > Notifications are enabled
- Ensure Do Not Disturb / Focus mode isn't blocking notifications
- Verify Quiet Hours in Trueday Settings aren't suppressing reminders
- Restart the app to re-register notification permissions
Go to Settings > Data Management to:
- Export your data first (recommended)
- Clear all tasks
- Reset profile to defaults
- Delete account and all associated data
